The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff 10/25/08

There were two stories in this book:  the story of the early Mormon church and the inception of celestial marriage, or polygamy, and the story of BeckyLynn Scott, accused of murdering her husband.
BeckyLynn and her husband were Firsts, a breakoff of the early Mormon church, who still practice polygamy.  BeckyLynn is accused of killing her [...]

The Carrot Cake Murder by JoAnne Fluke (audio) 10/22/08

I read one of these books before, the first, I think, and it was okay but I never felt compelled to pick up the rest of the series.  I decided to get this one on audio.
It was a hoot to hear those accents.  I’m not sure how authentic they are but still funny, nonetheless.
So, Uncle [...]

this is who I am by Rosanne Olson 10/24/08

The last time I went to the library, I got a great book.  It’s “this is who I am” by Rosanne Olson.  The book is a series of nude photos of women – various ages, sizes, races, etc.  It’s fabulous.
There’s Michelle, who at 58, has cancer and is bald.  She looks like someone I want [...]

Latte Trouble by Cleo Coyle 10/22/08

I didn’t really wanna like these books, but the more I read them, the more I do.
I love Clare Cosi.  I do.  I wish I knew her.  Oh, yes, I know she’s a fictional character.  Too bad.
So, let’s see.  The book opens with a party being thrown at the Village Blend.  The party is to [...]

Living with the Dead by Kelley Armstrong

This was my absolute least favorite of the Women of the Otheworld series.  I think Hope’s dilemma isn’t well defined.  In fact, I have no idea how it really matters other than she spaces out.
In this story, Robyn, Hope’s friend, is a publicist who moved to LA after her husband was murdered.  Robyn is, understandably, [...]

How to Have Style by Isaac Mizrahi

Inexplicably, I love Isaac Mizrahi.  I can’t afford any of his couture, besides they don’t make it in a size 18.  His Target clothes and shoes never fit me, so I’ve never bought them.  But, him, I love.  So I bought the book.  Pre-ordered it, even.
It was surprisingly helpful.  There were great examples highlighting a [...]

The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style by Kim France and Amanda Linett

I wouldn’t say “any style.”  There are a few that they consider iconic, and they give examples of how to incorporate them into your life.  The styles are:

Euro Chic
California Casual
Rock and Roll
Posh Eclectic
Mod
American Classic
Bombshell
Arty Slick
Bohemian
Gamine
Mix and match

So, it was okay but really just okay.  Clearly, this is a fashion book meant for much younger women.  [...]

The Quilter’s Kitchen by Jennifer Chiaverini 10/16/08

This book was a quick read.  There were brief exchanges between Sylvia and Anna, the newest Elm Creek Quilter, the chef.  It sort of foreshadowed that Jeremy and Anna are going to date.  Some of the recipes look good.  I am glad I didn’t buy this book.

Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones 10/07/08

I got this book because my friend M said it’s one of her favorites.  We tend to like a lot of the same books, so I got it.
At first, I wasn’t sure.  It sort of grew on me.  I wound up loving the ending.  But then, I like a tidy ending where everybody gets taken [...]

The Dream-Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon 10/05/08

I got this book by mistake.  It says it’s the first on the back and it is but of the wrong series.  I was kind of ticked when I realized then.
I began this book and thought, “Dear God.  What have I gotten myself into?”  I don’t know why I kept reading it.  Then I read [...]
